Great day today - we had a number of starlings in the top of our tree and (ta-dah!!) a song thrush! I thought I'd heard one in ths distance a couple of times - now I'm sure! _________________ 'In every tree, in every wood, there is a different green' - Bilbo Baggins.
guess who's jealous ... get maybe one or two brief visits from a thrush each year, and that's it _________________ humans are warm blooded furniture for cats
We don't see them very often, either, Winnie. Sometimes hear one, but rarely actually see it. _________________ 'In every tree, in every wood, there is a different green' - Bilbo Baggins.
Following a hospital appointment in Dumfries, we called in at wwt Caerlaverock, arriving just as the 2 o'clock feed was taking place: the hide was *packed*: I have been visiting for years, and have often been the only one in the whooper hide. Today, I could barely see any birds, as people were packed in 3 deep.
However, I did hear there was a female goldeneye and a pochard, as well as the usuals I have posted before: whoopers (including at least one family); the mute family, with parents chasing any other mute off the pond; tufted ducks; wigeon; mallards; Canada and greylag geese; moorhens; no bar-headed goose, though it is still around.
Went to saltcot hide, and saw a merlin; male hen harrier (both showed well for a considerable period of time); fieldfares; knot; lapwing; golden plover; oystercatchers; barnacles; swans (mainly mute but a few whoopers visible)
Voddy saw a "duck" but I didn't so no idea what it was;
pink-footed geese and more barnacles flying in
And a female roe deer
The trip to Dumfries (a rare one for me) would, I hoped, allow me to see what was on the River Nith: the last time I was there, a fair was parked by it! Today, it was shut due to "imminent flooding". Hopefully 3rd time lucky?
The river was indeed very high and fast-flowing; I was driving, but when stopped saw no birds at all _________________ humans are warm blooded furniture for cats

What a fascinating piece Jean, thanks.
Can't remember anyone ever going to that much trouble to attract me _________________ I don't suffer from stress, I am just a carrier!!
So beautiful! Does make you wonder, though, just why some animals/birds are made in such a complicated way, deosn't it? _________________ 'In every tree, in every wood, there is a different green' - Bilbo Baggins.
