a thrush posed beautifully on the fence at ED;s this afternoon: very jealous I was!!!!!
here is a shrub with red berries (no idea what) in a neighbour's garden, which I saw a blackbird eating. Must be tasty! _________________

Nope: no piccies til I return: I should have typed:
THERE!!!
and saw 2 more thrushes yesterday, this time in Hull (on same tree)
and lots of grey squirrels (I like them in non-red areas )
and lots and lots of water fowl too (but did my knees in again )
The most amazing (I think) hybrid mallard: no mallard colouring, but had a curly bit at tail end and pert yellow beak: more wigeon in appearance, with splotchy black and white head!
My first pochards .... _________________

I suspect the shrub is a pyracantha. Our neighbour has one, near our dividing fence, and all the birds love the berries, but especially the blackbirds. _________________ 'In every tree, in every wood, there is a different green' - Bilbo Baggins. |

Despite the gale forcve winds, the goldies and greenfinches tried theirebest to hold on. They gave up in the end, and I guess that most of the seed is on the floor now - good for the woodies and the dunnocks anyway. _________________ 'In every tree, in every wood, there is a different green' - Bilbo Baggins. |

| The thrush was back in the garden this morning. Rarity to appear was a magnificent male bullfinch; I haven't seen one since last summer. Sun is shining, sky is blue and there were loads of birds around 9.30am when I looked out - at least 5 greenfinches, great, blue and coal tits, robin, three dunnocks. woodie, a couple of starlings and a few blackbirds scrabbling round in the leaves (which I haven't yet raked up). These were all in the space of about five minutes. |

| Wonderful to see all those birds, Cathy. I'm having good sightings too at the moment : two nuthatches and several crested tits this morning. |

We have got a very large tree in the front garden and despite our efforts to identify what type it is we have failed. It has white flowers in the summer and pea pods similar to a laburnum in autumn. Anyway the seeds in the pea pods are a great food source to goldfinches. When I came home from walking Bailey yesterday the tree was alive with the chatter and movement of, I would think, 30 to so goldfinches. I have never seen to many and yet today there are none. I guess they must have stripped the seeds out of the pods. Also my holly tree is being stripped of berries by some of the fattest woodies I have ever seen. I am not impressed because I would love to have a few sprigs indoors for Christmas. _________________ Ever notice how people who tell you to calm down are the ones who made you mad in the first place! |

What a wonderful sight, Lizzy! We've had goldies using the tree feeder like a merry-go-round! We've not re-filled the feeder for a couple of days, as the seed just falls on the floor.
Oi, Cathy! Why have you stolen our bullfinch? Seriously though, we've not seen any since the spring but, perhaps, once the weather gets colder, they'll return as they know food's here. _________________ 'In every tree, in every wood, there is a different green' - Bilbo Baggins. |
